A stunning dimensional fuchsia flower has a bell of three flared pink sepals cupping a cobalt blue inner layer, with a cluster of trailing pink stamens, as it connects to a short brown branch by a thin yellow stem, along with two companion pink buds and five contrasting leaves in different hues of green. A blanket of fine air bubble dew glistens over the flora, which rests on a shimmering silver-foil-over-clear ground, adding a scintillating effect to this already spectacular design. Two rings of spaced millefiori represent the finest canes from the factory, including an iconic pink and green rose at the center, a very rare completely pink rose at the periphery, three different edelweiss canes, pastry molds, cogs and a stardust cane, decorating a green moss carpet ground with tiny red and white floret centers. “Clichy utilized its moss ground in this weight to create the illusion of vibrant wildflowers on a green lawn. It is an extraordinary example of the factory’s color vocabulary...” —The Art of the Paperweight: Challenging Tradition. “The most sought after, and undoubtedly the most striking, spaced millefiori are the moss green carpet grounds. Spaced silhouette canes of dancing ladies, a dancing devil and dancing dogs, each in a ring of green hollow cog canes, give chase to each other in a frenzy around a pink complex cane at the apex, encircled by a ring of green hollow cog canes and an outer ring of yellow cog floret canes. They contrast nicely with a bold blue-cored red-lined white cog carpet ground in which they sit. A previously unrecorded example. Diameter 2 7/8” $10,000-$12,000

One of only nine known horse plaque examples and just one of just three that are of this image, a blue intaglio carved horse stands with a lifted foreleg and hind leg on a patch of ground that shows atop a white plaque, rimmed in blue. The plaque floats within a clear ground with six round side facets and one top facet. “Roughly a dozen classic period paperweights exist which use the cameo carving technique made famous by Bohemian, English, and later, French glassworks. Delicate white stardust canes, with red bull’s-eye centers, create a prairie where varied and colorful millefiori canes are laid in spaced concentric rings, including a signature cane. The field of flowers is held in a green and white stave basket. “Ten stardust grounds have been documented from Clichy.” —The Dictionary of Glass Paperweights. Fine condition. A central red, white and blue star complex cane is ringed by star and bull’s-eye complex canes, at the center of two interlaced trefoil garlands, one of red complex canes and one of green stardust. Each resulting loop is dotted in alternation with an arrowhead cane or a red, white and blue star complex cane as found at the apex of the design. The exquisite arrangement has been set into a soft bed of dense white stardust canes. Fine condition. Diameter 3 1/16” $10,000-$12,000

A large blue, green and white complex cane, made of tubes, cogs and florets, centers eight white cog canes, with red six-point star centers, each of which is the start of radial rows of the same cane, dividing eight panels filled with a thick carpet of hollow cog canes, alternating between pink and green. One of only two known examples, its twin sold in Sotheby’s February 1980 auction as lot 159A for the then remarkable sum of 5,000 pounds sterling, the price of a substantial London home at the time. Six triangular panels of varied tightly-packed millefiori, including the silhouette cane of a dancing devil and a dancing man, are divided by six radial white latticinio staves that radiate from a large central pink, blue and white complex floret cane, to form a colorful cambered cushion. The outermost canes are pulled towards the center into a stave basket. Diameter 2 13/16” $8000-$12,000

Star composite-cane cluster canes and a sprinkling of a few more complex canes, in bold red, blue, green and white, are gathered into a dense carpet over a clear ground. “There are no...soft-hued shades in these millefiori canes. This might be a further indication that these paperweights–which are extremely rare–were, most likely, trial examples, of which only a few were made...” —Classic Paperweights from Silesia/Bohemia, page 215. An undulated trumpet-shaped white convolvulus flower has a magenta rim and a thin curved green stem from which a single shaded-green leaf sprouts. Derived from the Latin convolvere, to roll together or roll up, the convolvulus is an interchangeable term for morning glory. There are twenty-three documented examples of this type of design by Clichy. Fine condition. Diameter 2 15/16” $12,000-$15,000
